Hot...Chicken

Went to the dalk-kalbi jip for dinner with Peter, Sunny, and Lina. Lina is Jake's babysitter mate and oldest friend so they get along great. His tolerance for sitting at the table in a restaurant before letting us know that he's not happy with is roughly an hour. However, this evening Jake met an ajusshi that kept him busy for two hours. He had unbelievable energy and both Lina and Jake were rapt by his clown-like antics. It was a little much to be honest, but actually he did keep them busy so we could eat and talk. He slept in the car, woke at home, drank water, and is sleeping again.

ENERGY

Yesterday was Jake's "birthday." Totally forgot. He's in his 19th month. Crazy.

Definitely in the path to good health at the moment. Was insanely energetic after dinner, but he want to sleep well in spite of his craziness. As I said yesterday, he's challenging us a lot more in terms of getting what he wants. We're trying to be firm with him, but it feels like a full time job, for sure.

Strait home after picking up mom, dinner with nana again (ojinga-bokum).

He's Baaaack

Jakers was in much better spirits and doing better health-wise today. Gave something to me though b/c I felt horrible this AM. He, however, was noticeably more upbeat and smiley, although I think the latest development of "give me what I want or I'll cry" is here to stay for the time being.

Manic Monday

Even though it was Monday, we still had a good day. Jake's still a little sick and, worryingly, still fussy. He's being a classic baby in the sense that he sees something, wants it, doesn't get it...cries like hell. A bit better today, but still wearing his emotions on his sleeve.

I thought he'd be tired when I picked him up and the sitter actually said he didn't sleep. This usually means he hits the Zs as soon as he hits the seat. Instead he stayed awake, so I took him to the park for a little jaunt. We had fun save the "I want to play in the water fountain and will protest vociferously if you deny me" moment. Picked up mom, home, dinner, and then we decided to take a walk. Three stages on his walk: 1)He actually walked, a lot; 2) He wanted to be carried, a lot; 3) He protested, but got in his stroller and was asleep with in 10 mins. He's sleeping now. He's woken up at 3:30/4:00 since the sickness. I so hope that's not the deal tonight.

Odin and the Jakers

Watching the Oscars. Although Jake wasn't interested in them, he stayed awake for quite a while regardless. I took him for a walk around the grounds; he slept for about 5 minutes, then woke up when we got in the elevator. I thought it was going to be a tough sleep time, but when I got in I took him out of the walker and into the crib. He went right to sleep.

Today he spent most of the day at home again trying to get rid of the ear infection. Odin came over for play and for dins. As usual, they had a great time together. I cooked my first meal on the new stove. Not sure if I like the ability it has to stain itself.

I wonder why Korea never wins "Best Foreign Film?" Without a doubt they have the most robust film industry in Asia (far beyond the Japanese, who won as I wrote this) and are widely recognized as having a superior output of quality films. I think the answer is fairly simple: the US and Europe see Japan as "Asia"? Why? See post-War reconstruction and 60 years of ignorance about the rest of the continent. I'll stop here.
