The Museum by the Zoo(/Aquarium)

Whereas I would have usually spent the whole day with Jakey (and Mommy), I in fact spent it at HiSAM as a docent for their 2nd Saturday festivities. I was a tour guide for a downtown historic buildings tour. It was a rainy day so there were very few people interested in walking around downtown. Fun nonetheless.

Whilst I did this Jake had swims, lunch with Sunhee and Lina, and a play date at the zoo. Due to the rainy-ness, it got changed to the aquarium. After my tours, I met mom and Jake there, but I arrived a little too late to justify paying $6, so I waited outside. From the looks of it, he had a grand time as he usually does with his buds and budettes. Sorry I missed it but glad Jake looked so happy when I met him.

Dinner with me and Mommy at home followed by deep sleeps.
Photo credit to Mommy for what I think is a pretty incredible pic.

Not So Scary

Friday the 13th, but just like any other day, it was a joy to be with the Jakers. We went to the park again (with nana this time). It was only for a bit, but he fun playing in the fountain. He was soaking wet by the time we left.

Journey

Wow. Today has been one long marathon after another.

Jake and I met mom at her new office for the first time (as in a post-work 4:30-ish kinda thing) and, well, of course she wasn't ready at 4:30. We waited until 5:30. I wanted to watch the Bows' baseball game and mom wanted to meet Sunhee. That's the way it ended up.

But that's not the way it ended up. At the park I followed the UConn-Syracuse game, which was an epic. Around the 4th inning I saw that UConn lost. No worries; the UH game was going well. I left the game when it was 5-2 in the 7th, figuring they were in for a win. By the time I was exiting the parking structure, it was 5-5. At home listened (on the computer) all the way until now, the bottom of the 11th, when UH won.

Sounds simple, but I had to restart the comp for the 4th time today in order to get where I am right now. Drove me friggin' nuts today (the comp). Seriously. I felt like throwing the thing out the window. It took FOREVER to download a new iTunes, which happened to coincide with what seemed like the 10th Windows update in the past 3 days (which forces a restart of the comp). AnyWAY, felt like I was waiting the entire day.

I was waiting the entire day; but, if it concerns Jake, I'll wait forever. Come to think of it...I didn't wait for him at all today (except at mom's office I guess).

This whole post feels discombobulated. Thanks Windows Updates, iTunes updates, slow computer, mom, and endless restarts.

Whatever. Sleep.

Chili Dog

Went swimming with the Jakers in the afternoon. He's doing great, already "blowing bubbles" (a tactic taught at swim class) and kicking as he "swims." He loves the water too, which is fabulous.

Dinner with nana: chili and rice. Jake loved it.

Amazing fete of the day? He's actually been doing this for a couple of weeks now, but he goes to his bookshelf and picks out the same two books to read before bed. What's special about this? They are part of a series that Joo-hwan's mom sent from Korea. There are about 50 in the set and all the binders look pretty much alike, as do the size of the books. In order to pick the book, he has to either read the title or recognize the small picture on one of the books. The pic is about the size of two eraser heads. I'm glad I'm writing these things down. They are amazing moments for us.

The Slider

Debated whether I was going to blog this, but then I figured no one is reading this (I haven't told anyone about it yet) and Jake will most likely be the only person who reads every post (I hope), I decided I'd go ahead and do it. I got an email from a friend to day that started like this:

"Jeff,

Jake is one of the most beautiful human beings I've ever seen."

Hey, I gotta admit, I'm proud as hell. I feel the same way, what can I say? Again, I debated blogging this, but Jake, I think you may want to see what your aunties and uncles said about you.

Great day with the Jakers again. It was the first sunny day in a while, so I took Jake to the playground as soon as we got home (took two cars today). He was in such a good mood and obviously so happy and having fun. We played all over the jungle gym, sliding, climbing. All was good until he pointed at his back. I thought he'd hurt it, turns out it was dookie pants. We went home.

On the same tip as Sunday's weird shoe incident (see Sunday blog, don't have the energy to hyperlink here), Jake did another crazy thing today. When we arrived at the lobby, I gave him my keys b/c he likes to act like he's opening doors with them. He grabbed them, headed strait for the mailboxes, picked out our mailbox key on the first try and, this is nuts considering there are a hundred boxes there, walked strait to our box and unlocked it. Obvious question: how the hell did he know that was our box?

Crazy, Jake.

Spice Jake

Much different today than yester...day. Picked up Jake and we went to Foodland to get some supplies for dins. From the time I picked him up until he slept, he was all good. I should feel good about that. I do.

We had a good dinner with nana. He went right to sleep, perhaps the easiest he ever has.

The Challenge

What should have been a fantastic day was a bit tough. It was all me, but I had a stressful day with the Jakers. It wasn't that there was anything out of the ordinary, he was his usual self until about 5 when he reached his maximum tiredness due to lack of sleep.

The day started out well; we went to Ohana Music, he was great. He did this amazing thing, he grabbed some other father's shoes and took them over to him. We were all shocked. Only THAT GUY and Jake knew they were his shoes. It was totally amazing. Rather than sharing in the class though, he was taking stuff from other kids. Not maliciously, but he was.

We were to meet Jen and Brian for brunch at 10:30. Long story short, we actually ate at about 12:15. It was really difficult with Jake. He was in no mood to hang out and wait. He definitely wanted to wander. It was challenging.

He should have slept a lot after all that action, but he only did for about 20 mins in the car on the way home. He woke when we got home and think this was a very bad thing. I realize now he really needs his sleep. Odin came over to swim and they had a blast as usual, but at one point Odin wanted to use Jake's shopping cart, but Jake was in no mood to share. We kinda forced him to and he wailed. He was extremely cranky, but it wasn't his fault. The challenge continued.

We finished by eating dinner at Brant and Erica's. It was nice except Jake was in the mood to, well, not stay still again. He needed rest and we basically made him to play all day. By the time we got home we were all ready for a rest.

Today was one of the more challenging days as a parent for me.
