Super Million Hair

Monday. What can I say? Normal day? Yeah, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Picked up the Jakers (and omma) and went directly to Ala Moana b/c omma had some stuff to take care of (exchanges, returns, etc.) These days Jake is mos def not into the stroller thing. It must have looked a little funny b/c we decided we were going to get everything done as fast as we could so we wouldn't have to take him out of the stroller. If we did, he'd wander and pull stuff off shelves and do what any curious newish human would do. We were successful! He fussed a little, but with some inventive "strolling"--acting like I was going to crash into displays--he stayed occupied for the most part.

Dins was at Taiyo noodles. Great, basic food at this place and Jake was all for eating with me and omma without hassle. He was great and he wasn't even sitting in a highchair (the only one was occupied). It's days like these that renew my faith in our ability to eat out with the Jakes. A swell time was had by all.

On the development front: Jakers is definitely communicative with us. He doesn't say sentences, but he gets his point across. He'll rub his chest if he wants a bath, he'll say "mam" if he wants kimchi (which is every meal now, the kid is definitely Korean), and he'll point at stuff and say omma or appa if he finds it interesting. It's endlessly fascinating to me and it makes me so incredibly proud to watch him develop.

Kimchi Kid

Haircut! Mom thinks it's too short, but I like it. He was good in the chair, but got fussy toward the end.

Mom had some stuff to do at Ala Moana so we headed that way after work. We decided to eat early at Taiyo Noodles. Jake loves "pasta" almost as much as he does rice these days. Coming in a close second is kimchi, which he is asking for a lot these days. Today he kept wanting more and more. Yeah, he's Korean.

He's also saying more stuff these days, the cutest is when he makes any word with an "oo" sound. For example, "doo doo"; he purses his lips and says real slow "doooodoooo." It's very, very cute.

Until Tuesday

Planned on taking Jakers to the park, but I was told by the babysitter he skipped his nap today. Sure enough, he was all Zs as soon as he hit his chair. Went to the park (Ala Moana) anyway and I snapped this shot of him. It was a relatively down evening at home because mom had a bad day at work, but we had a nice dinner the three of us.

Fascinating bit of the day...I asked Jake before dinner where my glasses were. He pointed to the sink (where they usually are), but I said, "No Jake, they're not here. Where are they? I think they are on the night-table." He then proceeded to the table, but they weren't there. He walked around seemingly saying "I think they're here!" I'm absolutely dumbfounded by this because it tells me he is completely bilingual. He is.

Splash

Friday. The good day.

Picked up Jake about 3:30, too early to go get mom so we headed to Ala Moana again. We hit the Magic Island side today. He walked toward the water as soon as I put him down. When we reached the shore he pointed at the water and said something while making twisty motions with his wrist. He obviously likes the water and got a bit fussy when we started waling toward the bathroom (I had to pee).

On the way back to the car, a woman and what seemed to be her daughters and/or nieces saw Jake (and he saw them). After a daughter asked his age (18 months), the woman said "That's some size!" and the other women commented on his cuteness. This is par for the course for EVERYONE who meets him on the street, or in the park, etc. I'm not saying this b/c everyone says he's cute (he is), but b/c everyone seems to think he's so big. I see him as normal, but I guess he is pretty big.

Once, Twice

We were on the way home. Suijn got a phone call from Sun-hee and before we knew it we were on a playground with Lina. It was an unexpected side trip that ended up being very welcomed. The playtime led to dinner for the second time at Chun chon dalkkabi this week. Jake enjoyed kalguksu and mom and dad enjoyed 6 different kinds of chicken.

Immediately after picking up the Jakers, I took him to Ala Moana for a jaunt on the beach. We strolled (where Jake wanted to go) and threw rocks in the water. Loved it. Love him.

Blackout

Fully intended on blogging last night, but it happened that we had no power. Indeed, it was the "Great 18 Hour Post-Christmas Blackout of 2008," leaving all of Oahu w/o power for, well, hours. Honestly, it would have been all about Jake's parents considering it was their 9th anniversary. We spent only the late afternoon and late evening with the Jakester as we were out celebrating the day. Happy Anniversary mom.

Today was all Jake. Still no power in the AM so we decided to venture into town. Whole Foods was open (and insanely crowded) so we decided to visit Nana and have some...whole foods. Jake was in a particularly good mood all day. Did get a little tired of me taking pix of him, but he was mostly giggles. Went to Ala Moana AGAIN to do some gift exchange etc. Back at home we had a swim and he was in heaven. Absolutely loves the water. I can't explain the joy of seeing him giggle and laugh in the pool.

Great day and very thankful that we survived the "Great 18 Hour Post-Christmas Blackout of 2008" in one piece.

Antsy Jakesy

Jakester was in a weird mood today. He was antsy and fussy all day. We went to Ala Moana for some shopping/time wasting and he wanted to walk/run into every store and pull stuff off the shelves. He usually likes to be held, but he was all walking today. Me and Mom decided to get some dalkalbi since it's been a while, but it was a tough meal in the sense that Jake didn't want to eat or sit in his chair. Mom was completely exhausted. She's an incredibly patient and awesome Mom. Jake fell asleep on the way home. Not surprisingly, so did Mom.

Oh What a Busy Day (It Was...)

Busy day for the Jakers.

Picked up the sleeping tot at 3:00. Again, I was told he'd been sleeping for 2 hours. Yeesh, his sleeping habits have changed in the past couple of days.

Picked up Mom and went to Ala Moana where we got the obligatory "Pic With Santa". In all honesty, everyone working there, including Santa, was pretty dour. Completely disinterested and not full of joy whatsoever. I think Jake sensed this b/c he cried and seemed to hate the whole experience. He would usually be quite curious, but Santa was not making anyone feel like it was the holidays. Pic came out OK though...

As these pix reveal, perusing the vacuum cleaners at Sears was a MUCH more enjoyable experience. He grabbed a detachable brush from the Dyson Roller model and cleaned the whole vacuum section. Seriously.
